\u201cDemocracy\u201d New climbing area in Leonidio<\/span><\/h2>\n

During the two previous winters, Simon Montmory, a climbing instructor mainly installed between Leonidio and Kalymnos, equipped 44 new routes in a new sector near the monastery of Elona. Less than 15 minutes from the city center, there are routes from 6b to ~8c\/+, on very colorful colos, Verdonesque rock and even in cracks. All between 1 minute and 20 minutes of approach walk, for the furthest. There are routes in the shade all day and others that also take the sun. The sector still has a lot of potential, especially for easier routes, but also above 8c. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to give a name to this new sector that makes sense to me, hence Democracy. The rock is really of top quality, the view of the monastery of Elona and the mountains around magnificent, we have the choice between shade and sun\u2026the best! In winter I have more time to equip and possibly climb for myself. I always have the gear in my car, be enough to climb if I find friends on the cliff, be enough to climb alone, be enough to equip if it doesn\u2019t work to climb. I took every half-day available to add as many routes as possible and around my house, seeking the cliffs in the shade as a priority to extend our climbing season in Leonidio. <\/span><\/p>\n

I sometimes equipped these sectors under the snow, including a day working in the snowstorm, without gloves (for the pleasure of feeling the cold on my skin\u201d) with beautiful stalactites of ice, I was delighted. At the foot of the tracks, while getting ready, I found a huge scorpion near my things, while the temperatures were negative. Hence the name of the route \u2018Scorpion house\u2019 After doing as many routes as possible in Democracy, I started equipping another promising new sector, with routes ranging from 5 to 8c, for only 7 minutes of approach and shade from 11.30 for this sector. 750m above sea level.
